Economic development and place

Covers economic development and regional development, as well as planning and precincts. The challenges we have worked on include the industries and jobs of the future, investment, employment, enterprise, regional focus and and precinct specialisation.

Project examples:

City of Melbourne, Economic development strategy – development of strategy for the economic development of the city with a focus on the knowledge, visitor and creative economies, and on key precincts. Included a series of online codesign workshops involving hundreds of stakeholders (2020-22)

Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions (Vic), Aboriginal economic development strategy – advised on measurement of Aboriginal business outcomes, initial priorities under the strategy as well as on the role of regional hubs and precincts (2022)

University of Melbourne, R&D commercialisation hub – a feasibility study for the University and the State Government on the potential for the development of an biomedical R&D commercialisation hub in Parkville precinct (2019-20)

 

Education and research

Covers early childhood, schools, VET, higher education, research organisations. Education challenges we have worked on include teaching and learning, equity gaps, technology and workforce. Research challenges we have worked on include impact, commercialisation and digital support.

Project examples:

University of Melbourne, Research strategy – development a research strategy for the Faculty of Business and Economics with a focus on research excellence and impact, including stakeholder interviews, a series of codesign workshops and a report and implementation roadmap (2022-24)

University of Melbourne, Digital strategy – developed a digital strategy for the Faculty of Business and Economics including teaching and learning, research and administration (2022-23)

Monash University, Commercialisation strategy – a series of projects to develop a strategy for a step change in commercialisation outcomes from the Monash commercialisation ecosystem, and to plan for implementation, including incentivising and supporting greater commercialisation by researchers, strengthening the technology transfer system, and developing pre-seed and seed funds and a business incubator (2019-23)

 

Health

Covers health, aged care, disability and medical research. Key challenges we have worked on include chronic health, prevention and early intervention, aging, technology and innovation, workforce and financial sustainability.

Project examples:

VicHealth, regional sports – development of financial sustainability plans and a performance framework for nine Regional Sports Assemblies across regional Victoria, including codesign forums in each regional and statewide (2023-24)

Fight MND, Impact framework – development of a framework to measure and communicate impact to key stakeholder groups. It covered the impact of activity in Fight MND’s first decade of operation as well as for the journey ahead, and included a series of codesign workshops with internal and external stakeholders (2023)

Latrobe Health Advocate, strategic planning workshop – designed and facilitated a codesign workshop to develop a 5 year vision and 12 month plan for the organisation (2020)

 

Community

Covers human services, employment, and multicultural. Key challenges we have worked on include financial sustainability, community hubs, social enterprise models, and digital transformation.

We have helped develop strategies and business cases for a range of community initiatives.

Project examples:

Department of Premier and Cabinet, Indian Community Centre – development of a business case for the establishment of an Indian Community Centre in Geelong (2024)

Ganbina, transformation – advised on improved business practices and digitisation to help it expand its model of education to employment transition support for Indigenous children and young people to other communities with financial sustainability (2021-22)

Assembled Threads, expansion business case – developed a business case for the expansion of this social enterprise focussed on clothing manufacture by CALD communities, part funded by the Scanlon Foundation (2021)

 

Agriculture and environment

Covers agriculture, environment, land and water. Challenges we have worked on include trade, technology, regenerative agriculture, climate change, and biodiversity.

Project examples:

Department of Energy Environment and Climate Action, Wine Industry Strategy – development of a strategy for the wine industry in Victoria cooperatively for the Victorian Government and Wine Victoria, including extensive consultation and a series of codesign workshops across Victoria (2024-25)

VensoGrow, technology development roadmap – designed and facilitated two full-day workshops for this agritech startup with patented technology in seed coating and drying, to produce a technology development roadmap for 2025-26 (2025)

Native grains, industry roadmap and regional hub – worked with a First Nations entrepreneur to develop an Industry R&D roadmap for the establishment of a native grains industry in Australia including Indigenous participation and governance, and to develop a business structure, business plan for a native grain regional hub (2021-24)

 

Energy and resources

Covers energy, utilities, mining and resources processing. Challenges we have worked on include project facilitation, regulation and stakeholder engagement.

Project examples:

Australian Radioactive Waste Agency, nuclear decommissioning – collaborative development of principles for the decommissioning of nuclear and prescribed radiation facilities owned or operated by the Commonwealth, including codesign workshops (2025-current)

Geoscience Australia, stakeholder engagement strategy – to develop and execute a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy for the Repository Data Management & Delivery (RPMD) project, an upgraded digital platform for sharing GA’s information resources (2024)

Department of Environment Land Water and Planning, energy project facilitation – designed and delivered a codesign workshop on the development an investment logic map for support for the facilitation and regulation of new energy projects (2022)
